Snow White, everyone knows about the story about a princess who runs away from her jealous stepmother and meets seven dwarfs with seven unique personalities. But that's the Disney version. In the original Grimm version, the dwarfs don't have different personalities.
So why did Walt Disney change certain aspects of the story?
Several reasons. One of them was the appeal to children. Walt Disney had competition with other companies and this drove him to want to have as much unique, appealing and memorable characters as possible. So creating the dwarf's unique personalities added an element of appealing to specific children. Disney also changed the graphicness of the Grimm's story such as changing the queen's request for Snow White's liver and lungs to just her heart. The simplicity of the story makes it better to understand and once again more appealing to its audience. The old version seems a little old for the time period that Disney was in so that plays a factor too.
All in all, both versions although the same concept, create different effects when looking at them separately.
